Introduction

ETS-TTM-50(E)

Motorised torsion testing machine of 500 Nm capacity with digital torque and angle-of-rotation indication on a 20×4 LCD, unit selection in kgf·m or N·m, and storage of results with date and time for CSV export over USB. With 0.5 rpm drive, 500 mm grip clearance and 10 to 30 mm round grips it tests bars, shafts and large fasteners.

The ETS-TTM-50(E) is a 500 Nm digital torsion testing machine from Eklavya Techno Solutions, Ichalkaranji, India, with a least count of 0.05 Nm. It is the first of the heavy TTM machines: a 500 mm bed with a sliding tailstock, round grips for 10 to 17, 17 to 24 and 24 to 30 mm diameters, flat grips for 5 to 12 mm thick and 40 mm wide strips, and a 0.5 HP drive turning at a slower 0.5 rpm to suit the larger specimens. It tests bars, shafts, axles and large fasteners, recording torque and angle of rotation to give torsional strength, shear modulus and ductility.

Typical users are automotive and tractor component plants testing drive shafts, axle stubs and high-tensile bolts, forging and bar producers, and testing laboratories serving them. Torque, in kgf.m or N.m, and angle are displayed live on a 20x4 LCD and can be zeroed before each test; results are stored with date and time and exported as CSV over USB or reported in the PC software. The TTM-50 runs on 400 to 440 V three-phase and is used for tests to ASTM E143 and IS 1717.

  • High-precision digital display of torque with clear readability and high accuracy
  • User-friendly interface: unit selection in kgf·m or N·m, 20×4 LCD for load and angle of rotation
  • Versatile testing capability across a wide range of materials with consistent results
  • Manual operation with motorised drive for durability and control
  • Data storage and connectivity: date, time and torque values stored securely and exported as CSV via USB
  • Reporting facility with PC software
  • Round and flat specimen grips with sliding tailstock for different specimen lengths
  • Part of the TTM series: six capacities from 60 Nm to 2000 Nm to suit wire, rods, fasteners and shafts

Operation

How the test runs

  1. Clamp the specimen between the grips and adjust the tailstock to the specimen length.
  2. Select the torque unit and zero torque and angle on the panel.
  3. Start the drive; torque and angle of rotation are displayed live until the specimen fails.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ETS-TTM-50(E)

What specimens does the TTM-50 take?

Round specimens of 10 to 30 mm diameter in three grip ranges, flat specimens 5 to 12 mm thick and up to 40 mm wide, and lengths up to 500 mm between grips using the sliding tailstock. That covers bars, shafts, axle stubs, studs and bolts in the M12 to M24 region, and heat-treated or case-hardened parts within 500 Nm.

Why does the TTM-50 rotate at 0.5 rpm rather than 1.5 rpm?

Larger specimens reach their torque limits over fewer degrees of twist and generate much higher torque, so the TTM-50, TTM-100 and TTM-200 turn at 0.5 rpm to keep the loading rate controlled and the torque-angle record well resolved. The smaller TTM-6, 10 and 20 run at 1.5 rpm for wire and small rods that twist many turns before failure.

How does it compare with the TTM-20 and TTM-100?

The TTM-20 is 200 Nm with 7 to 20 mm grips, a 420 mm bed and 1.5 rpm. The TTM-50 offers 500 Nm, 10 to 30 mm grips, a 500 mm bed and 0.5 rpm on a 0.5 HP drive. The TTM-100 doubles capacity to 1000 Nm with 10 to 34 mm grips, a 600 mm bed and a 1 HP drive.

What is displayed and recorded?

Torque in kgf.m or N.m and angle of rotation, live on a 20x4 LCD, with zeroing on the panel before each test. Each result is stored with date and time and exported over USB as a CSV file for Excel, or handled in the ETS PC software for reports. From the data you obtain shear strength, shear modulus and twist to failure.

Which standards and power supply apply?

The TTM-50 is used for shear modulus determination to ASTM E143 and torsion tests to IS 1717; the torque measuring system is verified at installation and ETS commissions the machine on site anywhere in India. It runs on a 400 to 440 V, three-phase, 50 Hz supply.
