Introduction

ETS-TTM-200(E)

Motorised torsion testing machine of 2000 Nm capacity, the largest of the TTM series, with digital torque and angle-of-rotation indication on a 20×4 LCD, unit selection in kgf·m or N·m, and storage of results with date and time for CSV export over USB. A 1 HP drive at 0.5 rpm, 1000 mm grip clearance and 20 to 50 mm round grips take heavy bars, shafts and large fasteners.

The ETS-TTM-200(E) is the largest digital torsion testing machine in the range from Eklavya Techno Solutions, Ichalkaranji, India, with 2000 Nm capacity for heavy bars, shafts and large fasteners. A 1 HP drive turns the specimen at 0.5 rpm on a 1000 mm bed with sliding tailstock, with round grips for 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and 40 to 50 mm diameters and flat grips for 10 to 20 mm thick, 60 mm wide sections. Torque and angle of rotation are recorded throughout, so torsional yield and ultimate shear strength, shear modulus and twist at failure are obtained from one specimen.

The TTM-200 is aimed at heavy vehicle, tractor and off-highway component makers testing axles, propeller shafts and drive components, at forging plants and bar mills producing large sections, and at laboratories serving the steel and engineering industries. Torque, in kgf.m or N.m, and angle appear live on a 20x4 LCD and can be zeroed before each test; every result is stored with date and time for CSV export over USB or reporting in the PC software. The machine runs on 400 to 440 V three-phase and is used for tests to ASTM E143 and IS 1717.

  • High-precision digital display of torque with clear readability and high accuracy
  • User-friendly interface: unit selection in kgf·m or N·m, 20×4 LCD for load and angle of rotation
  • Versatile testing capability across a wide range of materials with consistent results
  • Manual operation with motorised drive for durability and control
  • Data storage and connectivity: date, time and torque values stored securely and exported as CSV via USB
  • Reporting facility with PC software
  • Round and flat specimen grips with sliding tailstock for different specimen lengths
  • Part of the TTM series: six capacities from 60 Nm to 2000 Nm to suit wire, rods, fasteners and shafts

Operation

How the test runs

  1. Clamp the specimen between the grips and adjust the tailstock to the specimen length.
  2. Select the torque unit and zero torque and angle on the panel.
  3. Start the drive; torque and angle of rotation are displayed live until the specimen fails.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ETS-TTM-200(E)

What is the largest specimen the TTM-200 can test?

Round specimens up to 50 mm diameter in the 40 to 50 mm grips, flat sections up to 20 mm thick and 60 mm wide, and lengths up to 1000 mm between grips using the sliding tailstock. Capacity is 2000 Nm; a 50 mm mild-steel bar yields in torsion within that, but high-strength alloy bars of the same size may not, so check the expected torque with ETS.

How do I estimate the torque my specimen will need?

For a round bar the torque at yield is roughly the shear yield strength times pi times the diameter cubed divided by 16, and ultimate torque is higher still. Because of the cube law a 40 mm bar needs about eight times the torque of a 20 mm bar of the same steel. Send ETS your material grade and sizes to confirm the right TTM capacity.

How does it compare with the TTM-100?

The TTM-100 is 1000 Nm with 10 to 34 mm grips and a 600 mm bed. The TTM-200 doubles capacity to 2000 Nm, takes 20 to 50 mm rounds and 10 to 20 mm flats, and has a 1000 mm bed for long shafts. Both use a 1 HP drive at 0.5 rpm, the same 20x4 LCD panel and USB CSV export.

What is displayed and how are results kept?

Torque in kgf.m or N.m and angle of rotation are shown live on the 20x4 LCD and zeroed before each test. Each result is stored with date and time and exported over USB as a CSV file, or handled in the ETS PC software for reports and printing. The torque-angle data yields shear strength, shear modulus and twist to failure.

Which standards and installation requirements apply?

The TTM-200 is used for tests to ASTM E143 and IS 1717 and its torque measuring system is verified at installation, with ETS commissioning the machine on site anywhere in India. It needs a 400 to 440 V, three-phase, 50 Hz supply for the 1 HP drive and floor space for the 1000 mm bed; ask ETS for the layout drawing.
