Optical Vickers Hardness Testers

Optical Vickers cum Brinell

Vickers hardness testers with 5 to 120 kgf loads: the optical VcB-250 performs Vickers and Brinell tests on one machine with a built-in projection screen, and the ETS VM 50-TSPC measures the diamond impression automatically with a CCD camera and touch-screen PC software. Designed in compliance with IS 1501-2 and ASTM E92.

Background information

Vickers hardness testing

IS 1501 (Part 2) · ASTM E92 · ISO 6507

The Vickers method uses a square-based diamond pyramid with a 136° angle between opposite faces. The indenter is pressed into the specimen under a test force from 5 to 120 kgf on the ETS range, and the two diagonals of the square impression are measured optically. The Vickers hardness number HV is proportional to the test force divided by the surface area of the impression, so a single continuous scale applies from very soft to very hard materials.

Because the impression is geometrically similar at every load, Vickers is the method of choice for thin sections, case-hardened layers, coatings, small precision parts and hardness traverses, and its values are directly comparable across load ranges.

The optical VcB-250 measures the impression on a built-in projection screen and also performs Brinell tests, while the ETS VM 50-TSPC measures the diagonals automatically with a CCD camera and touch-screen PC software. Both are designed in compliance with IS 1501 (Part 2), ASTM E92 and ISO 6507-2.
