Touch Screen PC-based Vickers Hardness Testing Machine

ETS VM 50-TSPC

ETS VM 50-TSPC
Introduction

ETS VM 50-TSPC

Industrial-grade touch-screen PC Vickers tester with 5 to 50 kgf loads. The test cycle is fully automatic: a precise load is applied to the diamond indenter through levers and weights, removed after the dwell, and the CCD camera image of the impression is digitised and analysed by the PC, which measures both diagonals and calculates the Vickers hardness number. Designed in strict compliance with IS 1501-2:2013.

The ETS VM 50-TSPC is a touch-screen PC Vickers hardness testing machine from Eklavya Techno Solutions, Ichalkaranji, India, designed in strict compliance with IS 1501 (Part 2). It applies 5, 10, 20, 30 or 50 kgf to a 136-degree diamond pyramid indenter through levers and dead weights with a motorised load, dwell and unload cycle, then the CCD camera image of the square impression is digitised on the touch-screen PC. The software measures both diagonals with a least count of 0.001 mm and calculates the Vickers hardness number, and the result is saved to a batch file for reports, standard deviation, mean, median and histogram.

Vickers is the method of choice when a single indenter must cover everything from soft alloys to the hardest tool steels, and when the impression must be small: thin sheet, case-depth checks, small precision parts, hardened surfaces and finished components where the test should be effectively non-destructive. The VM 50-TSPC is a compact bench machine of about 70 kg, 585 x 290 x 860 mm, with 200 mm test height, 135 mm throat depth and a single-phase 220 V supply. It complies with IS 1501 (Part 2), ASTM E92 and ISO 6507-2 and is supplied with a standard test block, weights, flat and V anvils, the Vicksys software pen drive and licence dongle.

  • Direct and accurate measurement of the Vickers hardness number using state-of-the-art image processing
  • Wide testing range from soft metals to the hardest alloys; small loads allow testing of thin sheet metal
  • High accuracy and repeatability of measurement at all loads
  • Fast measurement cycle for increased productivity; the small indentation makes the test non-destructive on finished components
  • Motorised loading and unloading for ease of operation
  • Advanced Windows-based software: online indentation setting and focusing on the monitor, batch file processing with data storage and reports
  • Statistical evaluation of standard deviation, mean, median and histogram; wide calibration and verification options on screen
  • Robust machine frame designed for high-precision loading; complies with IS 1501-2:2013

Operation

How the test runs

  1. Select the load on the touch-screen PC and place the specimen on the anvil.
  2. Start the test; the load is applied to the diamond indenter, held for the dwell and removed automatically.
  3. Focus the impression on the monitor; the software measures both diagonals and shows the HV value.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about ETS VM 50-TSPC

Which loads does the VM 50-TSPC apply and what do they cover?

Five dead-weight loads, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 50 kgf, applied to the Vickers diamond by a motorised cycle. Because the Vickers number is independent of load for a homogeneous material, the choice depends on the part: lighter loads for thin sheet, small parts and case-depth surveys, heavier loads for a larger, easier-to-measure impression on bulk material.

How are the diagonals measured?

The CCD camera image of the impression is shown on the touch-screen PC; the operator focuses it and the Vicksys software detects both diagonals, measures them with a least count of 0.001 mm over a 0.05 to 0.4 mm range and calculates HV automatically. Results are stored in batch files with statistics, and the software includes calibration and verification options.

What parts is Vickers testing on this machine suited to?

Hardened and tempered steel, tool steel, carburised and nitrided surfaces, thin sheet and strip, small precision components and finished parts where the impression must be tiny. The same diamond covers soft metals up to the hardest alloys, so one machine serves a heat-treatment shop, a tool room and an incoming-inspection lab.

How does it differ from the VcB-250?

The VcB-250 is an optical Vickers cum Brinell machine with loads up to 120 kgf Vickers and 250 kgf Brinell, measured on a projection screen with a micrometer. The VM 50-TSPC is Vickers only, 5 to 50 kgf, but measures automatically with a camera and touch-screen PC, stores batches and prints statistical reports, and is much lighter at about 70 kg.

Which standards does it comply with and what is supplied?

The VM 50-TSPC complies with IS 1501 (Part 2), ASTM E92 and ISO 6507-2. Supplied items are a standard test block, weights, flat anvil, small and big V anvils, spanners, cord, software licence dongle, Vicksys software pen drive and manual. A printer is not in the standard scope of supply; ask ETS when ordering.
