Introduction

RASN-SPL

Special tall-frame version of the RASN dial tester with 400 mm test height, 150 mm throat and a 250 mm diameter table for long shafts, large rings and heavy components that do not fit a standard bench tester.

The RASN-SPL is a special tall-frame version of the RASN dial Rockwell tester, built by Eklavya Techno Solutions in Ichalkaranji, India for components that simply do not fit under a standard bench tester. The test height is raised from 230 mm to 400 mm, the throat is deepened to 150 mm and the standard flat table is enlarged to 250 mm diameter, with a 70 mm V-groove table for round jobs. That geometry suits long shafts, large bearing rings, gear blanks, rolls, die blocks and heavy fabrications that would otherwise have to be sectioned before testing.

Everything else is the proven RASN design: regular Rockwell scales A to K with 60, 100 and 150 kgf major loads and a 10 kgf minor load, an automatic zero-setting dial reading to 1 Rockwell unit, an elevating screw guided in a hardened and ground bush, a precision-bearing loading plunger and dash-pot controlled load application. The machine complies with IS 1586 (Part 2), ASTM E18 and ISO 6508-2 and is supplied with a diamond RA indenter, a 1/16 inch ball indenter, certified Rockwell C and B test blocks, clamping device and cover. A jack rest for very long, heavy parts is available as an option.

  • Modern machine body with a large front-mounted dial gauge; the whole body is powder-coated so the paint shade stays intact and the machine looks new for years
  • Automatic zero-setting readout dial for easy and precise operation
  • Elevating screw precisely guided in a hardened and ground bush, limiting lateral movement to less than 0.05 mm even at full height for long-term accuracy and stability
  • Loading mechanism with a hardened support interface, eliminating any variation in readings caused by table movement or repeated use
  • Perfect vertical movement of the loading plunger ensured by precision bearings
  • Dash-pot controlled load application for a smooth, repeatable test cycle
  • Long machine life with consistent and reliable accuracy
  • Supplied with flat and V-groove testing tables, indenters, certified test blocks, clamping device and machine cover
  • 400 mm test height and 250 mm dia table with a 70 mm V-groove table for round jobs

Operation

How the test runs

  1. Fit the indenter and table for the scale to be tested and select the major load with the load selector.
  2. Raise the specimen against the indenter with the handwheel until the minor load is applied and the dial auto-zeroes.
  3. Apply the major load with the loading lever, wait for the dwell and release the load.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about RASN-SPL

How large a component can the RASN-SPL take?

The RASN-SPL offers 400 mm of test height and a 150 mm throat depth, compared with 230 mm and 133 mm on the standard RASN. The 250 mm diameter flat table supports big flat faces and the 70 mm V-groove table locates round jobs. For long shafts that overhang the table, the optional jack rest supports the free end so the part sits square under the indenter.

Which scales does the tall-frame tester cover?

The same nine regular Rockwell scales as the RASN, HRA to HRK, with major loads of 60, 100 and 150 kgf and a 10 kgf minor load, read on the auto-zero dial to 1 Rockwell unit. The supplied diamond RA and 1/16 inch ball indenters cover the everyday HRC and HRB scales used on hardened steel and softer ferrous and non-ferrous parts.

Is the RASN-SPL available with Brinell, superficial or digital options?

The RASN-SPL is offered as a regular Rockwell dial machine in the standard configuration. If you need Brinell or superficial scales, digital readout, USB export or a motorised cycle on a tall frame, contact ETS with the part size and the scales required and we will advise which configuration can be built for you.

Which standards does it comply with?

The RASN-SPL is built and verified to IS 1586 (Part 2), ASTM E18 and ISO 6508-2 like the rest of the ETS Rockwell range. Certified Rockwell C and Rockwell B test blocks are supplied for verification at installation and routine checks, and ETS provides calibration with traceable certificates and AMC service throughout India.

Where is this machine typically used?

Typical users are forging and heat-treatment shops handling long shafts and rolls, bearing and gear manufacturers with large rings and blanks, foundries testing heavy castings, and fabrication units that need to check hardness on large weldments or plates without cutting samples. Any application where the standard 230 mm test height is the limiting factor is a candidate.
