RSNE-250
Introduction

RSNE-250

Motorised digital Rockwell tester (also badged RASNE-250) with loads up to 250 kgf for Brinell testing with a 2.5 mm ball. The automatic load, dwell and unload cycle, 0.1 Rockwell display, thermal printer and USB export are shared with the RSNE; Brinell impressions are measured with the supplied microscope.

The RSNE-250, also known as RASNE-250, is the motorised digital Rockwell cum Brinell hardness tester from Eklavya Techno Solutions, Ichalkaranji, India. It shares the RSNE production-line features, an automatic load, dwell and unload cycle started from the panel, 0.1 Rockwell resolution, High/Good/Low judgement, built-in thermal printer and USB CSV export, and extends the load range to 60, 100, 150, 187.5 and 250 kgf. The three lower loads serve the regular Rockwell scales A to K; the two higher loads are used with the supplied 2.5 mm ball for Brinell scales HBW 2.5/187.5 and HBW 2.5/250 on castings, forgings and softer stock.

As on all ETS Rockwell cum Brinell machines, the Brinell result is not read from the display. The operator selects the Brinell load by hand with the ball indenter, lets the motorised cycle make the indentation, measures the impression diameter with the supplied Brinell microscope and reads the HBW value from the tables. The RSNE-250 offers 295 mm test height and 148 mm throat depth, weighs about 85 kg, runs on single-phase 230 V and complies with IS 1586 (Part 2), ASTM E18, ISO 6508-2 and IS 1500 (Part 2). Rockwell C, Rockwell B and HBW 2.5/187.5 test blocks are included.

Operation

How the test runs

  1. Set the scale, dwell time, high/low limits and auto/manual start from the front panel.
  2. Raise the specimen to the indenter until the SET indication appears.
  3. Press START; the motorised cycle applies the major load, dwells and unloads automatically.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about RSNE-250

Which jobs justify the RSNE-250 over the plain RSNE?

Choose the RSNE-250 when the same bench has to test hardened and tempered steel by Rockwell and also softer, coarser materials such as grey or ductile iron castings, forgings, annealed steel or thick non-ferrous stock by Brinell. The 187.5 and 250 kgf loads and 2.5 mm ball give the Brinell capability; the plain RSNE stops at 150 kgf and does Rockwell only.

Is the Brinell cycle motorised as well?

Yes, the load, dwell and unload run by motor for both Rockwell and Brinell loads; only the load selection is done by hand. The difference is in the reading: Rockwell values appear on the panel to 0.1 units, whereas the Brinell impression must be measured with the supplied microscope and converted with the standard tables, because there is no Brinell scale on the display.

What resolution, outputs and judgement does it provide?

Rockwell readings are shown to 0.1 units with a High, Good or Low indication against the limits set for the batch. Every result is stored with date, time and scale and can be printed on the built-in thermal printer, exported as CSV over USB or reported through the PC software. Brinell values measured by microscope are recorded manually.

How does it compare with the RASN-250-D and the RSNE-250-T?

The RASN-250-D has the same load range and digital panel but a hand-operated loading lever. The RSNE-250 adds the motorised cycle for production use. The RSNE-250-T replaces the keypad with a capacitive touch screen and offers USB export and PC software, and the RASNB-TSFA adds automatic test-force selection on top of that.

Which standards does the RSNE-250 comply with?

The Rockwell function is built and verified to IS 1586 (Part 2), ASTM E18 and ISO 6508-2 and the Brinell function to IS 1500 (Part 2). Certified Rockwell C, Rockwell B and HBW 2.5/187.5 test blocks are supplied for verification at installation and routine checks, and ETS provides calibration with traceable certificates across India.
